GRADUATE STUDIES IN HUMAN ECOLOGY

Students interested in graduate studies in Human Ecology at Rutgers enroll in a graduate program in a traditional discipline and pursue the human ecology option within that program. Students can enroll in the Ph.D. program in Ecology and pursue the human ecology option; they can enter the Ph.D. program in Anthropology and concentrate in ecological anthropology; they can enroll in the Ph.D. program in Sociology and focus on environmental sociology; they can enter the Ph.D program in Geography and concentrate in human geography. Getting a degree in a traditional discipline with a concentration in human ecology makes it easier for a student to find employment after graduation than would be the case if s/he gets an interdisciplinary Ph.D.

Rutgers has recently created an interdisciplinary Certificate Program in the Human Dimensions of Environmental Change which brings students and faculty from different disciplines to study environmental problems.
